TALES & TRAILS STORYTELLING

Stories for everyone older than yesterday and younger than tomorrow

 Testimonials

What a joy to host you at our five branches this past summer for our Summer Reading Celebration! I’m always a bit nervous during storytelling performances. Will the audience be too young? Will the storytellers engage the wide variety of mixed ages and listening abilities? My concerns vanished right from the start of the performance. Our audiences were spellbound. The variety of tales, the incorporation of music, and the opportunity for active audience participation all contributed to a successful and memorable storytelling presentation. We laughed, sang, and were awestruck.
Thank you for sharing your passion for storytelling. I highly recommend your presentations and am happy to serve as a reference to any interested library staff.

Youth Services Coordinator, Anchorage Public Library

Many thanks again for bringing your wonderful program to ten of the branches in our library system. You delighted our families with your highly interactive tales from around the world, always told with such warmth and infectious energy. Truly, your gift for storytelling and for connecting with diverse audiences helped to make this an unforgettable summer for us. Thank you and I hope we'll have the pleasure of hosting you both again.  Seung Hee Kang , Pierce County Washington Library System

“Bob Kanegis and Liz Mangual enthralled a packed room of preschoolers, school age kids, parents, caregivers and preschool teachers this summer and kept all ages entertained at once – an amazing feat.  Their delightful combination of fun personalities, participatory folktales of the natural world and foot stomping music culminated with the audience becoming the band!  One of our all time favorite programs here in Lincoln.”  (Amy Gavalis - Lincoln MA Public Library)

“Once again you have treated our library system to an amazing week of exceptional storytelling at 13 of our branches. Your unique talent for positive, happy fun made your performances the most popular an well-received this year.”  The youth services staff is still talking about your topnotch 4-hour staff development workshop. They were impressed with the wide array of ideas you presented for engaging children and their families through books and everyday encounters, and how much they could take away both in hand and heart, from the time spent with you.  It was truly an afternoon of meaningful professional and personal growth.”  Cilla Jacobsen, Youth Services Coordinator, Palm Beach County System

"Our enthusiastic audiences started waiting for them to come back the moment they left. Here's the thing about Bob and Liz.  They think that just about everyone they meet is also a storyteller. When they telll you a story they give it to you so you can share it too.  I remember one young boy attaching himself to Bob as he was packing up after a performance. "One more story-give me one more story I can tell."  And while he went about his work, Bob obliged with one more story." (Janis O'Driscoll, Coordinator of  Youth Services, Santa Cruz County Library System)

“Over the top wonderful! Bob put on an absolutely charming and engaging show that connected incredibly  well with our multi-age audience. From babies to grandparents, Bob had everyone enchanted with his delightful stories and music. Bob was the ultimate professional and I would not hesitate to book him again for another fabulous program here on Camano Island.”
(Mary Jennings (Sno-Isle Washington Regional Library)

“We brought Liz and Bob to this year's Children's Festival of Reading, our huge kickoff event for the summer reading programs. They were a hit! Their audiences were totally caught up in their stories.  And so nice and professional to work with.  Added bonus is that Liz did some bilingual stories, too.  It was a great pleasure meeting them both, and we would definitely hire them again.” (Fredda Williams- Knox County Library, Knoxville Tennessee.)

"The collaboration between Bob and the many North Dakota libraries was spectacular. Bob is a unique artist who truly loves what he does and shines around children of all ages. "Thank you for the marvelous family storytelling program.  I don't think there was a child or adult in the audience who was more enchanted or entertained than I!  I particularly appreciated the way you involved so many of the children in your stories. I'm so glad you take this show on the road." (Andrea Ouida, Director Rivervale NJ Library)

"Thanks also for sharing a piece of our country's rich oral tradition with both young and old and doing it with more energy than most 2 year olds and more humor than a rowdy bunch of Little Leaguers. You really livened up our afternoon. Your fans here hope to see you again soon." (Lucy Loveridge, Children's librarian, Framingham Massachusets)

" We were so impressed by Bob's storytelling skills that we created and engaged him for a third Big Read event.  In addition to being a gifted storyteller, Bob is a caring and sensitive individual which allowed him to work meaningully and effortlessly with struggling students at one event and gifted students at another.   His ability to immediately engage diverse audiences is a reflection of his integrity and professionalism. It's my pleasure to recommend him to any group seeking an experienced and entertaining storyteller."  (Karen Klett, Santa Fe Opera)

"What you did in that two hour workshop was amazing.  It's probably the most exciting thing I've learned lately within my profession as a librarian.  It had such impact because I experienced it and did not study it."  At the evening performance I met a confident, skilled performer, strutting his stuff and making an audience of 106 people laugh, listen, sing, and follow." (Barbara Onasch, Delhi NY)

"One only need look at the faces of children enraptured by the wondrous stories told by Bob and Liz to know what gifted storytellers and communicators they are. Their impact in our schools and in our community is deep and will be felt for years to come in the lives of our children." (Dr. Gary Dwyer, Superintendent, Bernalillo Schools)

"The ways in which your storytelling affected all the participants, from schoolchildren to the diplomats, to those behind the scenes, will be playing themselves out in untold ways in the future. Thanks for helping to create such a diverse community." (Mia Monroe, Supervising Park Ranger, Muir Woods National Monument)

And one of our cherished favorites... " Thank you for taking us on this great adventure!"  (2nd grader on our  'story nature hike' at the Rio Grande Nature Center)
